Spiral Jetty
Spiral Jetty by Robert Smithson is my 15th artist research piece. The Spiral Jetty is land art that was created in Utah and made entirely of mud, salt crystals, basalt rocks, earth, and water. It took six days to construct and is walkable as in you can walk on it, when it is in sight. Water does rise and lower annually. In 2008 the Spiral Jetty was in trouble due to oil companies wanting to drill for black gold (oil) I'm not sure if it ever came to pass but I highly doubt it. The piece is describe as being a representation of Smithsons marriage with his with Nancy Holy. He said like a spiral his marriage was going nowhere. I think it is one of those things that is important to America as a whole especially as natural art. To have it destroyed or disrupted by anything other than something natural is just horrible
