Artist #2

Jeffery Shaw
"The Golden Calf"

My next artist piece review is on Jeffery Shaw's "The Golden Calf". The golden calf itself is a religious figure it was created as an idol to satisfy the Israelites during Moses' absence. The golden bull was meant to be a representation of the God of Israel. This of course being a sin is also known as the sin of the calf.

This piece gave me new insight on how art can actually be viewed this piece is more of an interactive artwork. Throughout the two museums we have been to in the first two sections we've known one thing.                 DON'T TOUCH THE ARTWORK!!! That being said this piece is different so different in fact in order to even view the art piece you must interact.Watch the video to see what I mean.

Now that you've seen the video you might say "wow that was cool" or "what the heck was that about?!?".
If you second the later response what was actually going on in the video is people are going in to a room a section of an art gallery if you will and they see a screen attached to a rope that is attached to the pedestal that the screen was rested on. Each viewer picks it up and sees an image of something weird. So they back up to get a closer look and soon to realize that it is a bull a golden bull. What's cool is that no matter what viewer does as along as the screen is pointed at the pedestal they will see an accurate representation of the bull. If the viewer was looking at the pedestal from below, they would see the calf right above them.
The odd thing from this position is that everything is now exposed. The teats, udders, and hoves. Which leads me to this question. Is it even a calf anymore at that point or is it a fully grown cow?
